LAS VEGAS—During his CTIA keynote address this morning, Clearwire co-chairman Ben Wolff pointed out the importance of creating applications specifically tailored to take advantage of 4G network capabilities. To that end, he announced the creation of the Silicon Valley WiMAX Innovation Network, a “twenty square mile sandbox” for application developers being launched with the help of Google, Intel and Cisco.
The network will bring 4G wireless services to several Silicon Valley campuses, providing application developers with a live playground to build and test out new applications.
The service will be free to a number of qualified developers and will be available by late summer of this year.
