RF Micro Devices has been selected by a leading smartphone manufacturer to supply its high-performance RF1450 single-pole 4-throw (SP4T) antenna switch into an upcoming multi-featured CDMA smartphone.

Company officials could not be reached by press time, and the semiconductor company did not release the name of the manufacturer or the name of the device, only stating the consumer-oriented, dual-band CDMA smartphone is expected to launch in the second half of the year.

According to the company, the deal represents the first new business RF Micro Devices has had with the as-yet-unnamed manufacturer in several years. RF Micro Devices is heavily invested in smartphones and feature-rich 3G multimode devices, support for which comprised 30 percent of the company’s front-end revenue in the last quarter.

The company said the deal should support efforts to secure more business with this particular smartphone manufacturer across multiple product portfolios, including 3G transmit systems, cellular front ends, cellular switches, GPS LNA/filter modules, DC-to-DC converters and WLAN components.
