• Leap Wireless International’s Cricket Communications announced that the Cricket A600 USB modem is now available to customers. The AWS compatible A600 features a rotatable USB hinge for use with any laptop or desktop computer with a USB port. It’s the second EV-DO modem that Cricket has offered since introducing its broadband service in March 2008. Separately, Huawei Technologies said it deployed a 3G wireless network in Chicago, Ill., for Cricket. • Wireless Giant says it has opened a second authorized multi-carrier BlackBerry retail store in Concourse B at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Wireless Giant opened the first authorized multi-carrier BlackBerry Store in December 2007 in Farmington Hills, Mich. The BlackBerry Store from Wireless Giant in Atlanta is a multi-carrier store where BlackBerry smartphones from Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless can be purchased and activated for use with BlackBerry Internet Service and BlackBerry Enterprise Server. • Businesses and organizations can gain more control over mobile communication costs with a new offer from AT&T and Avaya. A new version of AT&T Mobile Extension combines Avaya's unified communications technologies with AT&T's qualified voice services and compatible wireless devices in a packaged solution with predictable monthly costs. The latest enhancement to AT&T Mobile Extension is designed for companies using Avaya Communication Manager IP Telephony on premises to extend corporate calling features. • SpinVox and Skype announced the availability of voicemail-to-text conversion for all Skype voicemail users. SpinVox converts voice messages to text in English, Spanish, French and German. The messages are then sent by Skype as an SMS text directly to a designated mobile phone for users to read. • Ringleader Digital announced a partnership with EyeWonder to develop rich media and video solutions across Ringleader Digital’s third-party advertising network. The agreement provides a platform to address the emerging market for mobile advertising in rich media applications and services. • Freescale Semiconductor announced its support of the agreement by the ZigBee Alliance and the RF4CE (Radio Frequency for Consumer Electronics) Consortium to join forces in delivering a standardized specification for RF-based remote controls used in the home entertainment market. The ZigBee RF4CE solution is available now to select ZigBee members. The ZigBee RF4CE creates a low-cost solution for control of products such as HDTV, home theater solutions, set-top boxes and other home entertainment devices. |
