10/25/2010 Clearwire May Soon Switch Over to the LTE Side
Clearwire has often been regarded as being one of the leading mobile service providing companies, despite being not in favor of LTE technology. This may change very soon, as they have seen the light at the end of the LTE tunnel, and it travels a lot faster than WiMAX technology does.
The company has recently reported outstanding results of the LTE trial in Phoenix with LTE hitting an incredible 90 Mbps, a significant increase over the 3 Mbps to 6 Mbps that Clearwire achieves utilizing WiMAX technology. They were running on 20 MHz spectrum channels during the trial.
Of course, it may be important to note that the trial was on a much smaller network scale than an average city network, but there is definitely something to be said that they were even able to reach the near 100 Mbps mark. When Verizon launches their deployment of 4G LTE later this year, they are estimating ranges of speed to be between 8 Mbps to 12 Mbps. Those are the kinds of numbers that should be seen from all the networks that claim “4G”, not the paltry 3-6 Mbps that Clearwire customers are experiencing now.
Naturally Clearwire wishes to stay competitive in its given market. Being a wireless broadband company and staying in the forefront of most technological updates is a difficult task. The company can’t just ever stop experimenting with newer, better technology because there will always be another company trying out something that they are not. Apple would not have made it this far without constantly trying to make their products better and their yearly updates of best-selling products have proven that a company that wants to succeed must always be extending their customer base and maintaining their position with their current base. Apparently Clearwire has come to this realization and they should be applauded for not sticking to what’s been working for them ‘just fine’ until now. If it ain’t broke, only fix it when it can be turned into profit.
