08/03/2009 | Report: Time Warner Cable Joins WiMAX Party |
Time Warner Cable will start reselling a WiMAX broadband service through its partnership with Clearwire in four markets by the end of the year. According to IDG News Services, the markets include Dallas and Charlotte. Pricing and the other two markets weren’t available, although Time Warner Cable did confirm its plans to offer its own branded service via Clearwire to IDG. Last year Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, Intel and Google invested $3.2 billion in Clearwire. The partnership gives the cable operators the ability to offer a wireless service that competes with offerings from Verizon and AT&T. On Tuesday, Comcast said it was launching its WiMAX wireless service, which is also offered via Clearwire’s network, in Atlanta, with Chicago, Philadelphia and other markets to follow later this year. |
