ZeroG Wireless has appointed Greg Winner as CEO. The 30-year, semiconductor industry veteran is charged with speeding the adoption of ZeroG’s low-power Wi-Fi technology. The company recently signed a multi-year resale agreement with Microchip Technologies with the goal of expanding the technology’s presence in embedded systems.

SAC Wireless recently signed a five-year contract to build wireless network infrastructure for Open Range Communications, which is building a 17-state network under the Department of Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Service. Under the terms of the contract, SAC will join Alvarion in deploying the network in Colorado, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. SAC will be in charge of the 4G WiMAX network, including site selection, installation and service.

AT&T announced it will carry the Motorola Karma QA1. The phone is designed for social-networking and features instant messaging and homescreen access to Facebook and MySpace. The phone also has instant message-style texting, one-click social networking and an optional GPS application, the AT&T Navigator. On the hardware side, the phone has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, high-resolution display and a 2.0 megapixel camera for both photos and video.

Cooper Power Systems and AT&T will jointly market and sell M2M smart grid sensor devices to utility companies. The sensors, which will be certified on AT&T’s wireless data network, will provide real-time information on system performance and locate problems with electricity delivery lines.

MetroPCS, provider of unlimited, flat-rate, no signed contract wireless service, today announced unlimited calling to over 100 countries for $5 per month. Customers will be able to make unlimited international calls to more than 100 countries, including more than 1,000 destinations, without any additional charges. For an additional $5 a month, unlimited international calling can be added to MetroPCS’ $40, $45 and $50 service plans, including family plans, which already include unlimited long distance service to the 48 continental United States and Puerto Rico.

Ixia, global provider of converged IP performance test systems, today announced that it has completed its acquisition of Catapult Communications Corporation (“Catapult”) for approximately $105 million, or $63 million net of Catapult’s cash and investments. The acquisition was conducted by means of a tender offer for all of the outstanding common shares of Catapult and was completed by a merger.

FocusVision Worldwide, recognized for its live video streaming from research facilities, recently announced the launch of FocusVision SuperMobi. SuperMobi relies on wireless networks to deliver live video streaming from remote locations. SuperMobi consists of a lightweight portable camera and microphone, operated by a trained videographer provided by FocusVision. The service includes the standard FocusVision features: VideoMarker software, 24/7 technical support and a one-year online archive.

SuperMobi allows a team to observe consumers in their own environment, without the distraction of bringing a large crowd. This new service allows for broader participation and greater alignment
